The map of the method

The eleven habits of the method fall into three families: feed, sharpen and protect. You pull most of the energy you create with from one of them and orbit it nearly all the time. Nine profiles turn around those families, and right now you are on one.

Right now, and that is the point. Your profile says where you are pulling from this quarter, not who you are. Train the habits of another family and your orbit moves. No family is better than another.

Nine profiles, and the 72 signatures between them

The map above is the Hypercreative Method seen from outside. The method trains eleven habits, and those habits fall into three families: how you feed an idea, how you sharpen it, and how you protect it once it exists. Nine ways of working orbit those three families, and every one of them is shaded by a second. That is seventy-two signatures in all, and one of them is where you are working from this quarter.

Feed

Where your ideas come from. You fill the tank with raw material: you master your own field, you wander into fields that are not yours, and you keep everything worth keeping.

Cartographer · Explorer · Collector

Sharpen

How raw material turns into an idea. You make it cut: you notice what others walked past, you rewrite the question, and you slam far-apart things together to see what survives.

Notary · Reframer · Collider

Protect

How the work survives contact with the world. You keep it alive under pressure: you think in drafts, you defend what you build from the committee, and you keep your own hands on the controls.

Sketcher · Guardian · Persona

None of this is a ranking. There is no best family, no top profile and no score anywhere in it. Where you are pulling from is a fact about this quarter, not a verdict about you, and it moves the moment you train the habits of another family.
